HAWK Stands for Handling Aggression with Knowledge and was created by Dean Stewart
Our Story:
After years of training law enforcement officers, body guards and civilians in martial arts, Dean Stewart found that most, if not all of his understudies were unable to function in high stress situations.
Whether they were a seasoned SWAT officer or home maker, they all needed to overcome the chemical reaction known as “fight or flight” in order to recall their training when stressed beyond their comfort zone.
As a teacher, Dean Stewart felt it was his responsibility to seek out a cure to this weakness in his self defense courses. Studying how stress affects the body was not difficult, but the cure was clouded one one extreme with complicated medical terminology and on the other with mystical, New Age techniques.
After years of research and development, Dean established a series of breathing techniques that eliminated the fight or flight syndrome, allowing individuals to function and utilize their training in high stress situations. There are three breathing techniques making up the system – the first technique heals stressed tendons, joints and muscles; the second creates focus; and the third lowers blood pressure.
After Dean applied these breathing methods to his curriculum, many students reported that they were better equipped to deal with stress not only in the class room, but also at work and home.
This inspired Dean to develop an official course on practical stress reduction in order to meet the needs of the general public, who regularly suffer from self-induced stress. Over the course of 5 years, he trained his students to apply these breathing principles, enabling them to remain in control during stressful situations and overcome the ‘inner war’ that stress induced. Several students were even able to wean themselves from prescription blood pressure medicine as a result! Over the course of 5 years, he watched numerous students’ lives change as they learned to control their “inner war.”
